KeepKey is a bitcoin hardware wallet that can also be used to store a wide range of popular cryptocurrencies including ether, Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash and Namecoin. The USB wallet can be controlled via software on the user’s computer, which handles everything from private key storage to transaction signing. Upon setup, a private key is generated using entropy and the user is then given a 12-word seed to write down. This should be stored in a safe place and can be used to recover the wallet’s contents in the event of the device being lost or stolen.

Private keys remain securely stored on the KeepKey device, while a PIN can be used for convenience, preventing funds from being stolen even if the wallet should fall into the wrong hands. In addition to serving as a cold storage wallet, KeepKey allows users to send and receive funds, with the digital display confirming the relevant transaction information. The user need only push a button to verify the details prior to sending funds. Using ShapeShift, it’s possible to transfer directly between digital assets and the wallet is supported by clients such as Electrum and MultiBit.

KeepKey hardware wallet is also ShapeShift compatible. Besides Bitcoin, KeepKey wallet supports also Ethereum (and ERC20 tokens), Litecoin, Dogecoin, Dash and Namecoin and is supported on Mac, PC and Linux.
